It may be snowing in the valley today but that hasn't always been the case for this time of year. These images were taken during the last week of February/first week of March in 1981 and show the Whistler Village and today's Creekside area looking quite spring-like. Yesterday we posted a photo of part of the World Cup course from 1982. That was the only year that the course ran down to the Whistler Village - racers began near the top of the Black and Orange Chairs, headed down through the Double Trouble rollers, the Pony Trail Flats, Tokum Corners, the Elevator Shaft, across Crabapple Creek, and to the finish line in view of the spectators waiting in the village below. The course was not a big success with everyone, and many teams thought it ended too slowly (one Austrian was reportedly heard to say "I should have brought my cross-country skis with me"). We've really enjoyed everyone who has shared their own memories of the World Cup and are sure some of you also remember being part of this crowd in Village Square! We've got one more clip from Big Mountain Skiing for you today - while it may begin in Vancouver it soon reaches today's Creekside and Whistler Mountain's very own Tex Rodgers! We highly recommend watching the entire segment on Whistler Mountain, which features runs down Whistler, heli-skiing and more.
