Whistler’s Answers: October 14, 1982

In the 1980s the Whistler Question began posing a question to three to six people and publishing their responses under “Whistler’s Answers” (not to be confused with the Whistler Answer).  Each week, we’ll be sharing one question and the answers given back in 1982.  Please note, all names/answers/occupations/neighbourhoods represent information given to the Question at the time of publishing and do not necessarily reflect the person today.

Some context for this week’s question: A major recession hit North America in 1981 and the impacts were still being felt in 1982. For many people, this meant making changes to the ways they recreate, including plans they might have for the ski season.

Question: How have the current economic conditions affected your skiing plans this year?

Darell (and Matthew) Munro – Chiropractor – Abbotsford

I don’t think we’ll downhill ski at all this winter. We won’t be using the lifts, but will get into cross-country skiing instead.

Adair Green – Accountant – Vancouver

I won’t be going to Aspen this year. In these tough economic times Whistler is the only place to ski because you sure get value for your money.

Jack Robertson – Bartender – Brio Estates

The recession has affected everyone, but somehow I’m going to get the money together to go skiing. That’s why I’m here.
